A: OUS offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs in various fields. The university also offers an Intensive Japanese Language Program for international students. Q. How can I apply to OUS?
A: Please refer to the information on the “How to Apply” page for instructions. To start the application process, download the Application Guidelines Booklet from the OUS Admissions page, fill out the enclosed application, and submit it with the required accompanying documents. Please note that the application process is not online.
Q. What is the language of instruction?
A. Most classes are taught in Japanese. However, some programs and courses are available in English, especially at the graduate level.
Q. Are there entrance exams for international students?
A. Yes. For exam dates, please see the Exam Calendar.
Q. Do I need a PC for classes?
A. After enrolling, you will need a laptop to register for classes via mylog. Some classes and lectures may require students to have a laptop on hand to access online materials from cloud services and view online lectures using video streaming VOD lessons, Google Meet, Zoom, etc.
Wi-Fi is available throughout the campus, and it is advisable to have internet access at home, in your apartment, or dormitory. The following setup is necessary for proper connection to OUS’ network.
2. Campus Life
Q: Does OUS provide dormitories for international students?
A. Yes. OUS has a dormitory; however, space is limited. OUS also helps students find university-approved accommodations. For more information or specific inquiries, please use the Inquiry Form on the Contact Us page.
Q: What clubs and extracurricular activities are available?
A. OUS offers a variety of clubs, including sports, arts, and cultural groups. Joining a club is a great way to meet other students and experience Japanese culture.
Q. Are there any Japanese language classes for international students?
A. Yes. OUS offers Japanese language classes to help international students improve their language skills. Students who do not yet meet the minimum Japanese proficiency requirement for undergraduate admission can enroll in the Intensive Japanese Language Program before entering their desired program.

4. Academic Support
Q. Can international students get academic advising?
A. Yes, OUS has a tutor system in which each student is assigned a personal tutor. Tutors are available to assist international students with course selection, research guidance, and other academic concerns.
Q. How do I register for classes?
A. Course registration is done online at the start of each semester.
5. International Support
Q. Are support services available to international students?
A. Yes. the Global Center provides support for international students on the Okayama Campus, and students at the Imabari Campus can contact the Academic and Student Support Office (教学・学生支援部).
Q. Can I work part-time while studying?
A. Yes. International students can work part-time up to 28 hours per week, but you need to obtain a “Permission to Engage in Activity Other Than That Permitted by the Status of Residence.” Additionally, OUS has specific rules regarding part-time work. Please contact Global Center or Academic and Student Support Division (教学・学生支援部) before you start part-time jobs.
