Admission Requirements

Eligibility Criteria

[For applicants without Japanese nationality, all the following conditions must be met]

  1. The applicant must have completed a 12-year curriculum of school education abroad (or is expected to complete it by March 31 of the academic year preceding the intended enrollment year), or hold an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
  2. The applicant must have, or is expected to obtain by the time of enrollment, a “Student” visa as specified under Japanese immigration law, or hold another mid- to long-term residency status.
  3. Applicants must satisfy at least one of the following Japanese language proficiency criteria and must intend to enroll in a university or specialized institution established by Kake Educational Institution after completing the preparatory course:
  4. Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT):
    N5 or higher, administered by the Japan Educational Exchange and Services (JEES) and the Japan Foundation.
  5. BJT Business Japanese Proficiency Test:
    300 points or higher, administered by the Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation.
  6. J.TEST Test of Practical Japanese:
    Level F or higher, administered by the Association for Testing Japanese/J. Test Office.
  7. NAT-TEST:
    Level 5 or higher, administered by Senmon Kyouiku Publishing Co., Ltd.
  8. Standard Test of Business Japanese (STBJ):
    350 points or higher, administered by the Applied Japanese Language Education Association.
  9. TOPJ Practical Japanese Proficiency Test:
    Beginner Level A or higher, administered by the TOPJ Practical Japanese Proficiency Test Implementation Committee.
  10. J-cert Certificate of Japanese as a Foreign Language:
    Beginner Level or higher, administered by the Japan International Human capital Development Organization.
  11. Japanese Language Capability Test (JLCT):
    JCT Level 5 or higher, administered by the Association for Japanese Language Capability Test.
  12. PJC Bridge (Practical Japanese Communication Exam):
    Level C or higher, administered by the Certify Inc.
  13. Japanese Proficiency Test (JPT): 315 or higher, or JPT Elementary:
    68 or higher, administered by the Japanese Proficiency Test Implementation Committee.

* A copy of the certificate for one of the above tests must be submitted at the time of application.

Note

  1. Lectures will be conducted in Japanese.
    Applicants are required to have sufficient Japanese language proficiency to understand the lectures in the Intensive Japanese Language Program.
  2. Eligibility for application will be reviewed based on the submitted documents.
    If an applicant is deemed ineligible, the submitted documents will be returned.
  3. For the Third Term Entrance Examination:
    Applicants must hold a “Student” residency status to be eligible to take the exam.
  4. If you have previously applied for a Certificate of Eligibility, you must disclose this information at the time of application.
  5. If false information or forgeries are found in the application documents, admission may be revoked.
    This applies even if the issue is discovered after the acceptance notification or enrollment approval.
  6. If a “Student” residency status under the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act cannot be obtained by the time of enrollment, admission eligibility will be forfeited.

Application Documents

Application Form
(OUS-designated format required)
  • Applicants must accurately fill out the form in Japanese.
  • Complete all required fields without leaving any blank space. Write “該当なし(N/A)” where applicable.
  • Attach a passport-style photograph (4cm x 3cm) taken within the last three months, showing the upper body, front view, and no hat.
*Changes to the desired faculty or course after submission will not be permitted.
*If you have previously been denied a Certificate of Eligibility or a visa, submit a document detailing the date and reason for the denial.
*Incomplete forms may result in rejection of your application.
Transcript
(Original)
  • Submit your high school transcript, including grades for each year. A transcript showing only graduation grades is not sufficient.
*If you have graduated from a higher education institution (e.g., university). Submit the transcript covering all academic years.
*If you withdrew from or are currently enrolled in a higher education institution, submit documents verifying your enrollment period and a transcript.
Documents in languages other than Japanese must include a Japanese translation.
Graduation Certificate
(Original)
  • Submit a graduation certificate of a certificate of expected graduation from your high school.
*If submitting a certificate of expected graduation, submit the graduation certificate by the time of enrollment.
*If you have graduated from a higher education institution, submit both the graduation certificate and the degree certificate (e.g., bachelor’s degree) if applicable.
*If currently enrolled in a higher education institution, submit a certificate of expected graduation.
Documents in languages other than Japanese must include a Japanese translation.
Recommendation Letter
*Designated schools only

  • Submit a letter of recommendation from the principal of the designated school.
Survey
  • A survey prepared by a representative of the applicant’s most recent school (e.g., high school, university, Japanese language school)
Documents in languages other than Japanese must include a Japanese translation.
Proof of Japanese Language Proficiency
  • Please submit documents that can certify your Japanese language proficiency, such as a copy of the “Japanese Language Proficiency Certificate” from the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). Attach a copy of the score report for exams such as the JLPT or EJU (Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students)
* Additionally, please submit documents verifying your grades, attendance, enrollment period, and graduation (or completion) from a Japanese language school.
Statement of financial Support
  • The financial sponsor must clearly specify the reason for assuming financial responsibility and the method of covering tuition and other expenses.
Documents in languages other than Japanese must include a Japanese translation.
Documents Proving Financial Capability
(Applicants from the Intensive Japanese Language Program of OUS affiliated schools are not required to submit items ii, iii, and iv.)
  • The financial sponsor must provide the following original documents:
  • Bank Balance Certificate (Original)
  • Certificate of Employment: A certificate verifying the financial sponsor’s employment (Original)
  • Income Certificate: A certificate verifying the financial sponsor’s income (Original)
  • Document Certifying the Relationship Between the Applicant and the Financial Sponsor(Original)
Copy of Identification Documents
  • A copy of passport (page with photo) and the residence card (front and back)
  • Applicants with Chinese, Taiwanese, or Korean nationality must also submit a document issued by a public institution that clearly shows their full name in Kanji.
* If you do not have a passport, submit a copy of a document issued by a public institution that verifies your name and nationality.
*Applicants residing in Japan must submit a copy of their residence card.

  • Ensure that all checkboxes are marked with either “〇/×”. The responsible person must affix their seal or signature.
  • Confirm that there are no deficiencies or missing documents, and place the “Application Document Checklist” on top of the submitted documents.

Note

  • If you have previously applied for the issuance of a Certificate of Eligibility to the Immigration Bureau of the Ministry of Justice in Japan, you must disclose this information.
  • Items I, IV, V, VII and X must be completed using the designated forms provided by OUS. Documents submitted on non-designated forms will not be accepted.
  • For application documents written in languages other than Japanese, a Japanese translation must be attached.
  • Submitted certificates and documents will not be returned under any circumstance. (If there is only one original document, submit the original first. It will be returned late.)
