Museum of Dinosaur Research

Founded in 2018, the Museum of Dinosaur Research aims to contribute to natural science education and outreach in the Okayama region and beyond. The museum displays specimens and showcases the entire process, from excavation in Mongolia’s Gobi Desert to research and study.

In April 2020, the main exhibition hall was renovated to enhance learning about the evolution of life, including dinosaurs, and the changes in the Earth's environment. The Museum of Dinosaur Research serves as both an educational hub in the natural sciences and a center for dinosaur research within Japan.

Visitors can see through glass-walled fossil processing and research labs, observing the entire process from excavation, fossil cleaning, and specimen preparation to subsequent research. The museum also features various specimens of theropods discovered in the Gobi Desert and displays the latest research findings.

In the exhibition hall, you can learn about our excavation and research activities in the Gobi Desert, view a Gobihadros skeleton, and view rare dinosaur footprint fossils available only here in Japan. You can also interact with actual 3D data from dig sites and explore maps of the areas studied—experience dinosaur excavation firsthand.
