Outline

The Graduate Program of Science develops human resources who are able to do creative research in technical fields, and understand the body of knowledge in natural science.
We provide opportunities for high level education and research for students who both learn and put into practice the body of knowledge in natural science from their undergraduate education. The aim is to develop human resources who extend their technical knowledge. We hope to accept Graduate Program of Science students on the basis of these perspectives and the qualities of the students.

Applied Mathematics

Broad knowledge and research skills of students are developed both in pure mathematics and applied mathematics. The research instruction system covers traditional fields such as algebra, geometry and mathematical analysis as well as probability statistics and information theory. The research library and computer facilities enhance the environment and serve to make this Master’s Program the center of research and education in the Chugoku-Shikoku region in the fields of mathematics, applied mathematics and information mathematics.

Applied Physics

This field of specialization is comprised of four courses quantum physics, physical property physics, radiation physics and medical physics, with a broad range of studies from basics to applications. Students study and research theories and simulations in the nuclear field and delve into applications in the medical field, including cerebral science and cell death. Our aim is to develop experts who can play an active role in the fields of electronics, new materials development, information science and medical engineering.

Biochemistry

Instructors of specialized fields encompassing science, engineering, agricultural science, medicine and pharmacy gather beyond the framework of respective specialized fields under the theme of life, and jointly conduct independent studies and research in new fields. In particular, students learn advanced knowledge and skills of bioscience and biotechnology and develop as professionals who will engage in research and development with originality.

Zoology

This field of specialization is comprised of courses to study wild animals and deepen zoological knowledge. Both courses focus on natural history education and research and explain the special characteristics of animals through a multifaceted approach, utilizing the latest scientific methods, with consideration for animal welfare. We will develop, through the latest research, the ability to discover and solve problems and present results.

Chemistry

Research in this field of specialization covers chemistry in general. This field of specialization is comprised of four courses of organic chemistry, inorganic and solid-state chemistry, physical chemistry and analytical chemistry. Themes of each laboratory are wide-ranging, from the basics to applications of chemistry and research across interdisciplinary fields. Independent experiments and research on the most advanced exanple, students acquire not only knowledge of their specialized field but also knowledge of overall chemistry.

Applied Science

A research system of three courses in mathematical science, environment and energy science; biology and chemistry has been established to develop not only thorough expertise but also basic knowledge across an extensive field for interdisciplinary understanding. Education and research related to common themes across multiple fields such as mathematics + information science, physics + chemistry + geoscience, geoscience + biology and chemistry + biology are conducted. Students will develop a flexible spirit of exploration and comprehensive perspective.

Life Science

This field of specialization is comprised of three courses functional food science, health and environmental science and pathological condition analysis. Students take on research specialized in each field such as “research on synthesizing of physiologically active compounds using living cells and food preventive medicine” in functional food science, “research on emergence adjustment of toxic genes and adhesion factor, mainly on Clostridium welchii” in pathological condition analysis, and “research on the structure of food components, using a physical chemistry approach” in health environmental science.

Doctoral Program of Science (the second semester)

Outline

The Doctoral Program of Science develops human resources who are able to learn and put into practice technical knowledge in their field with a high level of education and research from their graduate education. In addition, having learning processes to understand advanced theory and research corresponding to a doctoral thesis, a summarization and presentation. We hope to accept Doctoral Program of Science students on the basis of these perspectives and the qualities of the students.

Applied Mathematics

This field of specialization is comprised of four courses algebra, geometry, applied mathematical analysis and information mathematics. General education and research in pure mathematics, applied mathematics and information mathematics are advanced. In the algebra course, study and research is conducted on advanced algebraic geometry; in the geometry course, study and research is conducted on group and manifold geometry; the applied mathematical analysis courses mainly focuse on functional equations; and in the information mathematics course, computer statistical model approaches are studied and researched using statistical data.

Material Science

Based on 6 fields of specialization in the Graduate School of Science, Master’s Program, except for Applied Mathematics, this field of specialization is comprised of 15 courses related to chemistry, physics, biology and geoscience. Natural products, organic substances, biological functions and interfaces, solid substances and physical properties of the earth are research themes. Instructors leading the fields of natural sciences provide lectures and instructions. This program was started in 1978 as the first doctoral program at a private university in the Chugoku-Shikoku region and has produced many excellent graduates since its establishment.

Graduate Program of Engineering

Outline

The Graduate Program of Engineering develops independent and high level engineers and researchers who; contribute to the society through science technology, acquire special knowledge and skill required for manufacturing, and have a conciliatory approach to nature and human community. For this purpose, this program addresses abilities to learn and apply high knowledge and skill in technical fields, to find and solve issues, to communicate results in a technical and precise way, and to understand technical matters and use languages in our globalized society. We hope to accept Graduate Program of Engineering students on the basis of these perspectives, and the qualities of the students.

Applied Chemistry

This field of specialization is comprised of five courses: inorganic material chemistry, organic synthesis chemistry, applied physical chemistry, biological engineering and chemical engineering. Major research subjects are new chemical substances, including functional materials such as new ceramics, physiological activity substances, supra-induction substances and biological products. Presentations at academic societies and publications in academic journals are encouraged.

Electronic Engineering

This field of specialization is comprised of four courses: electronic physicality, computer and information, systems engineering and electronics application. Integrating basic fields of science and applied fields of engineering, students develop the ability to achieve creative research and development. These courses cover all electronics-related fields and a variety of research connected to information engineering.

Intelligent Mechanical Engineering

In world of a rapidly growing modern society, human resources with the ability and skills to create and design human-friendly, intelligent machinery systems are required. This field of specialization aims to develop professionals having advanced knowledge and skills related to intelligent mechanical engineering, including robotics, mechatronics technology, intelligent robot engineering technology, universal design, social services and ergonomics.

Architecture

This field of specialization develops human resources who can offer practical solutions related to modern architecture, including harmony with the natural environment, energy conservation, succession and rehabilitation of historical and cultural heritage and adaptation to an aging society. This field of specialization is comprised of three courses: building planning, building structural engineering and building environmental engineering/facility engineering. Students acquire broad knowledge of overall architecture, with the ability to design, produce, and operate.

Mechanical Systems Engineering

This field of specialization enhances the ability to thoroughly understand the operation principles of mechanical systems and physical laws, which constitute the backbone, as required in the world of “manufacturing,” the core of business society in the 21st century with cutting-edge research in specialized fields. Through joint work with undergraduate students, graduate students develop the ability to independently make accurate judgement as leaders in a laboratory and acquire skills required for future practitioners.

 Information and Computer Engineering

This field of specialization is comprised of four courses: information mathematics, computer engineering, intelligent information engineering and information communication engineering. This field covers a wide research area of information engineering, from principles to applications related to software, hardware and networks and develops human resources who can instruct younger engineers with sufficient knowledge and have advanced research skills which satisfy the potential for acquiring a doctorate.

Biomedical Engineering

In addition to the knowledge in engineering and scientific engineering acquired at the undergraduate level, students acquire a deeper learning in advanced medical and biological courses. This field of specialization is comprised of two courses in biological science and biological engineering. Using engineering approaches, this field develops researchers and professional engineers who solve issues related to the development of new drugs, medical supplies and medical equipment, and can contribute to improvements in medical standards.

Outline

The Doctoral Program of Engineering develops independent and high level engineers and researchers who; contribute to the society through science technology, acquire special knowledge and skill required for manufacturing, and have a conciliatory approach to nature and human community. For this purpose, these programs address the ability to set challenges to solve with the most advanced theory and gain highly specialized skills. In addition, language skills such as writing, presentation and communication skills are gained to present results in scholarly journal or conference of home and abroad. And they can take the initiative in solving problems as independent high level engineer and researcher. We hope to accept Doctoral Program of Engineering students on the basis of these perspectives and the qualities of the students.

System Science

10 courses were created Based on the master’s program for applied chemistry, mechanical systems engineering, electronic engineering, information engineering and intelligent mechanical engineering. We aim to promote an environment of research and development in information related-fields including network systems, controlling systems-related fields including robots, material-related fields and interdisciplinary fields. We educate individuals who will play an active role in a variety of fields, including University instructors and corporate researchers.

The Graduate Program of Informatics has high professional education research as a cornerstone of informatics and technical skill as the foundation of basic and specialized education in the faculty. The program develops human resources with high professional potential in the Information Science and Technology society to target sustainable development in harmony with the environment. Program consists of Informatics Science and Social Information major with information as the keyword for realizing the philosophy of educational research, and pushing the advance in educational research by Information Technology. Biosphere-Geosphere System

This field of specialization is comprised of three courses: geoscience, biology and anthropology. Under the basic policy of understanding the natural environment, living organisms and human beings as one large system, research is conducted incorporating fieldwork. With the aim of advancing new field science, and utilizing computer technology, we aim to develop professionals with a broad perspective and a sprit to explore.

Socio-Information

“Regional society and information” is comprehensively studied. This field of specialization is comprised of a variety of fields, including economics and management, social science, history and information, along with social data analysis. We aim to develop socio-information specialists who will support and create regional societies against the backdrop of social demand through interdisciplinary research on advanced academic theories in the student’s specialized field and a broad range of applied technologies.

As a doctoral program integrating three master’s program courses, this field of specialization is comprised of two courses: mathematical systems and geo-environmental systems. Assigning main and associate academic advisors and sub advisers, we have established an education system that offers interdisciplinary research instruction. Biosphere-Geosphere Science

The earth as an expansive museum. Focusing on fieldwork, tackling themes such as environment and biodiversity.

The global environment has changed along with the evolution of living organisms. We help graduate students develop the skills to discover and problem-solving , through analysis of information obtained by experiments and experience, including field observations and research through kinds-on training. In order to deepen knowledge, we offer six courses in “Botany and Horticultural Science,” “Animals and Insects Science,” “Geo-Archaeology,” “Geo-Meteorology,” “Cosmology” and “Dinosaurs and Paleontology.” Students can actively promote their own interdisciplinary studies. After graduation, students can expect to work in companies and local governments as professionals of the environment, regional affairs and weather-related organizations. We also focus on supporting acquisition of qualifications such as educators and museum curators.
