Japanese Education Course Teacher-Trainees Have Practice Classes with Intensive Japanese Language Program

2023.01.25更新news

OUS Japanese Education Course students successfully completed Teaching Practice with students in the Intensive Japanese Language Program (IJLP)

OUS third-year students enrolled in the Japanese Education Course conducted Japanese classes with students in the Intensive Japanese Language Program (IJLP) as part of their teacher training.

The student-teachers conducted classes with an awareness of the qualities and abilities required of a Japanese language teacher. The lesson focused on grammar points new to the IJLP students. In preparation for the class, the student-teachers came up with sample situations to make the grammar easily understandable, tasks enabling IJLP students to produce the sentences accurately, and conversation practices empowering them to use the newly learned grammar to speak with confidence. The student-teachers set learning objectives considering the current and future needs of the IJLP students. They designed various classroom activities (pair work, role play, etc.) to develop student's communication skills and connect them with other speakers.

The student-teachers had taught Japanese in pairs or as a team before, but this was their first teaching practice alone, and they seemed nervous. However, they could use their previous learning and experience to interact calmly with the IJLP students.

We hope they can support Japanese language learners and people needing Japanese language support in Japan and abroad.
