Okayama University of Science, Faculty of Education: Online Japanese Language Teaching Practice with The University of Findlay

2022.11.09更新news

On Wednesday, November 3, the Okayama University of Science (OUS) and the University of Findlay in the United States held an online program for OUS students taking "Teaching of Japanese Language II" in the Faculty of Education and Findlay students studying Japanese. OUS students came up with beginner-level sample conversations for Findlay students who started their Japanese language studies in September based on their "actual conversations among university students." Before the event, OUS students made videos of themselves having sample dialogues in situations requiring certain expressions and shared them with the Findlay students. On the event day, OUS students explained Japanese grammar to the Findlay students. They had practice conversations by creating example sentences using places and things related to Okayama.
OUS students were nervous about their first teaching experience. Nevertheless, the Findlay students commented that having university students teach Japanese made learning fun. Furthermore, thanks to the conversation practice, they could immediately use what they had just learned.
We want to continue accumulating practical learning through exchanges with overseas partner schools.
