On Saturday, April 11, GLOBOLA members hosted the 2026 New Students Welcome Party at Sky Terrace and the 2nd Floor Lounge in the Kake 50th Anniversary Commemorative Building for 20 new OUS students, including first-year and international students.
Icebreaker: Lineup Game The event started with an icebreaker activity at Sky Terrace, in which participants played a line-up game without speaking, communicating only through gestures. First, they lined up by their birthdays. Second, they lined up by favorite sport in alphabetical order. After the icebreaker, the students divided into four groups in preparation for the main event.
The Main Event: Campus Quest For this event, each group visited four locations around the OUS campus and performed a specific task or answered a question to earn points.
For example: Quest 1: Building C7 Take a funny picture in front of the cafeteria. Write the name of the cafeteria.
Quest 2: OUS Library Locate the book Minna no Nihongo and show it to the GLOBOLA supporter.
The groups had 45 minutes to complete all four quests before reaching the final goal, the 2nd Floor Lounge at the 50th Anniversary Memorial Building, where the scores were tallied to decide the winning groups.
The New Students Welcome Party ended with a commemorative photo of GLOBOLA members, OUS staff, and student participants.
After the photo, many participants exchanged contact information to stay in touch. The GLOBOLA New Students Welcome Party received positive responses from the participants in a post-event survey. Many commented that they enjoyed the activities and were happy to make new friends.
GLOBOLA will hold two information sessions on Tuesday, April 14, in lecture room C0143, and on Thursday, April 16, in the Home Economics Room on the 9th floor of the A1 Building, to recruit new members. We look forward to seeing new faces.
