GLOBOLA Participates in Handayama Festival for the 2nd Time

On Saturday and Sunday, November 22 and 23, Okayama University of Science held its annual Handayama Festival. Among the various attractions, GLOBOLA (Global Volunteers), a student organization dedicated to fostering intercultural exchange and global awareness, participated for the second time in the festival by serving up an authentic Sri Lankan dish of chicken curry with coconut roti, which was a popular favorite at last year’s event.

The team of 21 members, five of whom were Sri Lankan international students, worked together to serve a total of 198 meals over the two days (102 on the first day and 96 on the second). The unique taste and aroma attracted many attendees, who shared enthusiastic feedback such as, “It’s so good, I came back both days!” The dish sold out earlier than expected both days.

Proceeds from the event will be used to support GLOBOLA’s ongoing efforts to enhance the university’s global engagement initiatives. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds will also be used to support the preparation of a food-serving event for the local community scheduled for December 7, providing opportunities for students to engage with and contribute to the community.
