Veterinary Training in Brazil

Conversation with Local Students at the University of Findlay

Interaction with Children at Wright State University’s Affiliated Kindergarten
A total of ten students joined the session. They had taken part in programs at partner institutions in the United States—Wright State University and the University of Findlay—as well as in Brazil—the Federal University of Paraná and the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná. Using PowerPoint slides and photos, each student gave a presentation highlighting their most memorable experience overseas.
During the session, students were asked to select one standout moment and reflect on three points: what happened, how they felt, and why they wanted to share it. Each presentation lasted between five and ten minutes.
From the U.S. programs, students shared insights such as “the importance of looking beyond appearances to understand who people really are” and “how the way we spend limited time shapes our future selves.” Many also spoke about how they were encouraged by the friendly atmosphere and direct style of communication, which made them more aware of cultural differences with Japan. Several students expressed a strong determination to share their thoughts and feelings in their own words, despite the challenge of language barriers.
From the Brazil programs, students introduced new discoveries, including “the warmth of the local people,” “an environment where animals live freely,” and “the strong presence of Japanese culture.” Some explained how their initial concerns about safety were completely overturned, and instead, they were deeply moved by the kindness and smiles of those they met. These experiences even influenced how they now think about their future paths and life goals.
The session also became a lively space for exchange, as participants actively asked questions and offered comments after each presentation. By comparing experiences across different countries and programs, students were able to gain fresh perspectives and inspiration.
At OUS’s Global Center, we believe that post-orientation sessions like this play a vital role in helping students reflect on, articulate, and share what they learned abroad. These experiences not only foster personal growth but also serve as powerful encouragement for future participants. We look forward to seeing how each student will continue to broaden their international outlook and connect their experiences to new challenges ahead.
