On July 23, 2025, Okayama University of Science conducted an online pre-departure orientation for ten students who will take part in programs in Brazil and the United States this summer.

Each group will participate in training programs hosted by universities and institutions with which OUS has established academic agreements. The Brazil program will run from Tuesday, August 26 to Friday, September 12 (18 days), and will include visits to the Federal University of Paraná and the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná. This program is designed for students specializing in animal-related fields, and will feature site visits to large-animal facilities as well as university-affiliated hospitals.

The United States program will be held at two universities: Wright State University and the University of Findlay. Scheduled from Tuesday, August 26 to Wednesday, September 10 (16 days), the program offers a wide range of experiences, including attending English courses, sightseeing, and exchanges with local students.

In addition to guidance on the required procedures before and after travel, the orientation included an intercultural learning activity titled Outside Expert. Through this activity, students came to recognize that cultural understanding often requires more than direct explanations, and that the way questions are asked can greatly influence the information obtained. The exercise allowed participants to experience the challenge of inferring values and customs from limited information, while also emphasizing the importance of flexibility and observation in understanding others.

Students were also given the task of keeping a simple daily journal during their stay abroad, documenting changes in their emotions and perspectives. After returning, all participants will gather for a post-program orientation, where each group will share one particularly memorable experience from their time overseas.

These programs are expected to provide students with meaningful insights and learning opportunities within a limited period, contributing to their personal growth and development.
