University of Findlay Student Visits OUS for Science Training - Part 3

2025.07.16 updateNews

Continued from the previous article, this report outlines the final leg of activities of the Universit of Findlay trainee in the Department of Bioscience.

In the Ando Laboratory of the Cosmetics and Food Course, melanin, which causes blemishes, was produced in vitro to evaluate the effects of whitening agents (inhibitors of melanin production). In the Tadokoro Laboratory, observations were made on chicken embryos, which were used as a model for skin research. Through microscopic observation and dissection, they experienced the mysterious and beautiful world of embryonic development and learned how body structures and skin color (melanin) are formed. In the Yamaguchi Laboratory, experiments on protein purification and protein crystallization were conducted. The intricate work may have been challenging. However, the students quickly became friends and enjoyed lunch together in one of the university cafeterias.

In the Hamada Laboratory of the Biological Production Course, after learning the principles of various cutting-edge microscopes, the trainee experienced the differences in how objects appear under a normal fluorescence microscope versus a confocal microscope. Also, as it was the last day, she participated in a takoyaki party with the students.

Through this research, OUS students could engage in a fulfilling international exchange with the University of Findlay visitor trainee!
