GLOBOLA Thrives at the Kake International Festival

Team GLOBOLA

On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, GLOBOLA members supported the 2025 Kake International Festival at the OUS Sky Terrace.

Kake Educational Institution’s Department for International Affairs invited GLOBOLA to participate in the activity. The group collaborated with international students from Sri Lanka, China, and Bangladesh to prepare and serve international cuisine to students and faculty visiting from the United States and Brazil, and other guests.

The group prepared the following three dishes:
  • Biryani: a spicy Bangladeshi dish containing basmati rice cooked in milk, with vegetables and beef
  • Coconut Roti & Chicken Curry: a Sri Lankan dish containing round bread made with coconut (roti), topped with curry made with chicken and onions
  • Chao Leng Mian (炒冷面): a popular street food of northeast China consisting of a rice paper fried with egg, wrapped around vegetables and fish sausage, and topped with a hot savory sauce

On the event day, GLOBOLA members and international students prepared food in the Home Economics room and transported it to Sky Terrace to serve. Visitors commented that they enjoyed tasting authentic cuisine they had never tasted before, or different from what is usually served in restaurants. International students from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka who attended the event commented that they were happy to eat food that reminded them of their home countries.

Additionally, two Sri Lankan GLOBOLA members were present on stage as emcees. Both facilitated the stage event in English and Japanese. The bilingual emceeing ensured smooth transitions throughout the event. It was praised for being inclusive of participants from diverse backgrounds and for creating a welcoming, international atmosphere.

Through their involvement in this year’s Kake International Festival, the Globola members played a key role in promoting intercultural understanding and fostering an inclusive community.
