Introducing Global Opportunities to New Students

Okayama University of Science (OUS) held its annual Freshman Seminar for new students at Ridai Hall on the Okayama Campus. This seminar is designed to introduce the diverse range of initiatives and programs offered at the university and to inspire students to actively engage in their academic journey. During the five-day event—May 15, 16, 19, 20, and 21, 2025—following an introduction by the student government association, the student organization Globola (Global Volunteer) and the Global Center presented a variety of programs aimed at fostering a global perspective.

Led by the Global Center, the seminar provided a detailed overview of OUS’s international exchange events, overseas study programs, and academic partnerships. The center also introduced its English language initiatives, including English Hour—a weekly themed, casual English conversation program that allows students to enjoy practicing English in a relaxed and engaging environment. These programs drew strong interest from the incoming students.

In addition, student members from Globola took the stage to share their own experiences. Speaking with passion, they introduced the group’s activities and highlighted the value of international exchange. Their presentations offered first-year students an accessible and inspiring view of global engagement.

The Global Center will continue to offer a wide variety of international exchange and study abroad opportunities with partner institutions in countries such as the United States, Brazil, the Philippines, Taiwan, South Korea, and Sri Lanka.
