Students from the Faculty of Education Participated in the "4th HEART.FULL Expo" Human Rights Awareness Event

The 4th-year students from the Faculty of Education provided an opportunity to consider essential points for communicating with non-native speakers of Japanese. On stage, they explained how to convey information to people, including foreigners, who find communication in Japanese challenging using 'Easy Japanese.' They explained the rules of 'YASASHII Japanese (easy and considerate Japanese).' At the booth, participants were invited to rephrase sentences extracted from the Okayama City website and the Okayama Prefecture disaster prevention guidebook into 'YASASHII Japanese.' The rephrased sentences were then evaluated using the 'Yasanichi Checker' to determine how much simpler they had become. The general public and event organizers experienced the 'Yasanichi Checker,' we received comments like, 'It's fascinating! It was a good opportunity to reconsider my own use of Japanese.'
We hope that, by sharing our daily learning and experiences through such opportunities, we can convey to many people the significance of resolving human rights issues. We plan to continue our active involvement in these activities.
