Tied for 6th among private universities in Western Japan, comparable to "MARCH" and "Kankandoritsu"

On October 9, the Times Higher Education (THE), a prominent UK-based higher education publication, announced its World University Rankings 2025. Okayama University of Science (OUS) was ranked in the 1501+ range globally among the 2,092 universities included in the rankings. Domestically, OUS tied for 63rd place among 119 ranked universities in Japan. This year, the number of ranked universities in Japan increased by three, bringing the total to 119. OUS achieved its first-ever ranking, comparable to well-known Japanese private university groups such as "Kankandoritsu" (a group of 4 private universities in the Kansai region).
The rankings assess universities worldwide across five key areas: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, and International Outlook, using 18 performance indicators, which are then used to calculate the overall ranking. One area where OUS stood out was Industry, where it ranked 1069th globally. The university’s extensive research initiatives, in collaboration with industry and local communities, are believed to have played a key role in this achievement.

OUS is the only private university in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions to be ranked. It is tied for 6th place among private universities in Western Japan west of the Kinki region. It is tied for 20th place among private universities nationwide.
