On July 17, 16 students heading to Brazil and the United States this summer attended a pre-orientation session. The orientation connected Lecture Room C0151 on the 5th floor of Building C1 at the Okayama Campus and the conference room on the 1st floor of the Administration Building at the Imabari Campus via Zoom.
Each group of students will participate in programs at our partner universities. The students going to Brazil will visit the Federal University of Paraná and the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná from Tuesday, August 27 to Friday, September 13, for 18 days. This program is specifically designed for students studying animal-related fields, and they will visit facilities for large animals and university-affiliated hospitals.
There are two programs in the United States. One group will attend Wright State University from Thursday, August 29 to Friday, September 13, for 16 days. The other group will attend the University of Findlay from Tuesday, August 27 to Wednesday, September 11, also for 16 days. Both programs include attending English classes, sightseeing, and various activities to interact with local students.
During the pre-orientation, students were informed about the procedures to follow before and after their travels. Additionally, they participated in activities to practice active information sharing, listening, and collaboration, essential for communication in different cultures. The students were also tasked with observing their emotional changes and writing a simple daily journal while abroad. After returning, all groups will gather for a post-orientation, where they will select and present the most memorable event from their overseas program. We hope the students will gain many insights and learnings within their limited time.
