Buddy Activities with Visiting Students from the US & Brazil

On 26 June, 30 visitors from Wright State University (Ohio, USA), the University of Findlay (Ohio, USA), the Pontifical Catholic University of Parana (Brazil), and the Federal University of Parana (Brazil) arrived at Okayama University of Science, ready to embark on a unique cultural exchange.

During the morning, the American and Brazilian students were paired with OUS students who volunteered their time to be Buddies for the morning. They spent time with their buddies, attending chemistry, English, and other classes in the first and second periods, giving the visitors a chance to experience Japanese university life. Fortunately, the weather was nice that day, so the visitors and their buddies could tour the campus, enjoy the view from the Sky Terrace, and take photos with the dinosaurs in Building A1. During lunchtime, the students enjoyed eating at the cafeterias, buying snacks from the convenience store, and enjoying their first udon (Japanese flour noodle) at an udon restaurant. One of the American students who had never tried cold udon before said: 'It was very tasty! Cold udon is good when it's hot".

Thanks to the OUS students who helped us as buddies and the teachers who willingly accepted the American & Brazilian students into their classrooms, a powerful cultural exchange took place, leaving a lasting impact on all involved.
