Department of Biomedical Engineering

Department of Biomedical Engineering aims to study and educate biomedical and clinical engineering which is an interdisciplinary field of engineering and medicine/biology and is recognized to be essential to medicine. Many hospitals, clinics, and biomedical industries need “Biomedical Engineers” and/or “Clinical Engineers ”who have good knowledge of both engineering and medicine and also can develop, design, manufacture, and operate high-performance biomedical equipments and instruments.

Aiming to educate individuals with the following skills

*Clinical Engineers having a national license are qualified to support medical doctors in clinical medicine; as a member of medical team, Clinical Engineers operate and manage such high-performance biomedical equipment and instruments as heart-lung machines, dialysis systems, and ultrasonic apparatus for diagnosis.

Engineering Project Course

The course is currently organized by specialists in various fields of engineering. The purpose is of the course is to educate leaders who have extensive knowledge in engineering who can use their backgrounds for future innovation.

Research Areas

The Engineering Project Course allows students the opportunity to learn various areas in engineering and to choose challenging creative projects according to the students’ future objectives and abilities. Each student will have a ‘tutorial session’ when he/she will be advised a customized curriculum to meet his/her requirements. The following are examples of projects:

Rescue Robot Project

Model program includes ‘Mechanical Design’, ‘Actuator’, ‘Robot Control’, ‘Image Processing’, ‘Communication Skills’, and ‘Bio-Information’ as some of the main courses in the Rescue Robot ‘Project I-IV ’ introduced in the 2nd and 3rd year.

New Energy Project

Model program includes ‘Energy Generation/Conversion Engineering (sun/wind/water)’, ‘Biotechnology’, as main courses for the New Energy ‘Project I-IV’ introduced in the 2nd and 3rd year.

New Material Development Project

Model Program includes ‘New Luminous Material: (eg.Organic EL)’, ‘Semiconductor Material’, and ‘Compound Material’ as main courses for the New Material Development ‘Project I-IV’ introduced in the 2nd and 3rd year.

All-in-One Project

Model Program includes all areas in engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical, and information engineering); taking advantage of the various undergraduate fields. Future goals for students include areas in becoming leaders for product development.
